Daryl D. Quimby, 91, of Pine Island, who formerly farmed in rural Kenyon, died Sunday, March 18, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. Daryl was born December 1, 1920 in Dodge County, Minnesota the son of Ross and Matie (Martin) Quimby Cain. He attended District 97 School in Dodge County and then West Concord High School. Daryl's dad died when he was thirteen. He continued to work the farm with mother, Matie, and eventually purchased his Uncle William Martin''s farm. He was united in marriage to Bess Flicek on April 19, 1947 at the United Methodist Church, West Concord. Daryl hauled milk in addition to farming. In the early 70's, Daryl and Bess moved to West Concord where they built and operated the local car wash. Later they returned to their farm where they lived until 1995. Daryl continued to farm in Pine Island and operate Daryl Quimby Hauling. Daryl enjoyed old-time dancing, fishing and even obtained a pilot''s license. Daryl always kept busy with his love of farming, fixing machinery or helping to build his next home. He was a very social man and loved visiting with family and friends. His family was important to him, and he will be dearly missed by them and all those who knew him. He is survived by his wife Bess Quimby of Pine Island; his daughter, Roxayn (and James) Ball of Austin, TX; his son, Dr. Gary Quimby of Pine Island; a granddaughter, Lisa (and Bryan) Kent of Austin, TX, and their two children, Ciara and Camden; and a grandson, Ryan Ball of Charlotte, NC. Also two brothers, Donovan (and Dolores) Quimby; and Orville (and Addie) Quimby both of West Concord He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lorraine Spreiter. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord on Friday, March 23, 2012, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and also one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church, West Concord with The Reverend David Westlake officiating. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church of West Concord or Camp Companion Cat and Dog Rescue in Rochester.
