Obituary

David (Dave) Lewis Everds, 83, of Owatonna, MN died peacefully on October 27, 2019 at the Reflections Hospice House, Northfield, MN after a 3 ½ year battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Ames, Iowa on August 29, 1936 to James C. and A. Lucille Everds. Dave grew up in Ames, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State College in 1958 with a degree in civil engineering. He was grateful for his education and was a longtime loyal supporter and fan of Iowa State. He liked to tell people that his family has four generations of Iowa State grads – his mother, himself, his daughter and his granddaughter. On October 11, 1958 he was united in marriage to Judith (Judy) Dieterich at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Most of Dave's career was spent as a county engineer serving in Butler Co., Iowa, Wabasha Co., MN, Freeborn Co., MN and lastly in Dakota Co., MN. He truly enjoyed being a county engineer, a profession where he said he could see projects from their inception to their completion and way beyond. Dave retired in 1998 and the following year he and Judy moved to Owatonna, MN to live along the golf course. Golf was Dave's passion. He had played since childhood and continued playing as long as his health allowed. He earned three letters in golf from Iowa State. He liked competitive golf but was always willing to help others with their games. Dave was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a regular worshiper at the Saturday evening service. He served in the U.S. Army, once for basic training and again during the Berlin Crisis of 1961-62. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Judy; daughter, Susan (Paul) Antol, Apple Valley, MN; granddaughter, Betsy Antol, Burnsville, MN; one cousin, Carolyn Johnson, Humboldt, IA. He is also survived by Judy's family; sister-in-law, Jean (George) Currier, Red Wing, MN; and two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Barb), Morristown, TN and Keith (Susan) Dieterich, St. Ansgar, Iowa; nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Joe, and one sister-in-law, Eunice Dieterich. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Building Fund, Reflections Hospice House, Northfield, MN, Brighton Hospice, Northfield, MN, or the donor's choice. Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 609 Lincoln Ave S, Owatonna MN at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 1, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Lunch will follow.
