David S. Mussman 69, of Owatonna, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Owatonna Hospital. He was born May 5, 1943 in Havana Township the son of Arthur and Emma (Schwenke) Mussman. Dave grew up on a farm on the south side of Rice Lake. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1961. He married his high school sweet heart, Julianna-Jo Esse, in 1961. Dave lettered in football and wrestling in high school and continued to be an avid supporter of Owatonna athletics throughout his life. He loved sports and enjoyed coaching hockey and baseball. He enjoyed a lifelong career, 44 years, at Federated Insurance in Iowa and Owatonna where he received numerous recognitions for his outstanding service. Dave was an active volunteer in many civic organizations such as the Shriners, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Eagles, Elks, VFW and Legions. Dave''s passion was volunteering for events that benefitted children and the work of Shriner''s Hospital. He helped to organize and volunteer in countless events over many years. Dave was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, as well as swimming, golfing and tennis. Dave enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in many sports and activities. He was proud of his children''s and grandchildren''s many accomplishments. The last seventeen years was spent with his constant companion, Edith Schauble (Grandma Edith), whom he loved dearly. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by mother, Emma Mussman of Owatonna, children D. Steven (and Amy) Mussman Jr., of Owatonna, Heidi Smith of Owatonna, Chris (and Shelley) Mussman of Grand Forks, ND, Michael (and Kristi) Mussman of Savage, Jonathan Schauble of San Diego, CA, April Schauble of Loveland, CO, and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters JoAnn Cerand of Minneapolis, Linda Short of Denver, CO, and one brother Kevin Mussman of Owatonna. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur and his wife Julianna-Jo. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday February 19, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:30, and at First Baptist Church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Pastor Cindy Halvorson officiating. Interment will be in the Havana Cemetery in Havana Township. Memorials are preferred to the Shriners Hospital for Children, American Cancer Society, or the Steele County Humane Society.
