Obituary

David Pfeifer, 81, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Homestead Hospice House. David was born October 8, 1928 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Edward and Sadie (Frennea) Pfeifer. Here he was raised and attended school graduating from Owatonna High School in 1946. He entered the United States Army on November 13, 1946 and served overseas in Austria during WWII. One tour he handled top secret information besides being an industrial engineer and a sharpshooter. Following his honorable discharge on May 3, 1948, he returned to Owatonna and attended Mankato Vocational Technical School studying in electric motors. He was united in marriage to Lois Voss on September 26, 1950 in Northwood, IA. Continuing serving in the Army Reserve, David was called to serve during the Korean War and was stationed in Tacoma, WA. After, he continued his education in Mankato and following, owned and operated Pfeifer Auto Electric in Owatonna. It was later renamed Pfeifer Industrial Supply. He worked repairing electric motors on silos and windmills. He then went into sales for his business later retiring. Lois and David then began operating a food concession trailer traveling to area community events and county fairs. David enjoyed tinkering around. He loved inventing things and was interested in corn burners and working on new windmills that would generate electricity. He enjoyed working on his hobby farm raising a garden and sheep. He offered sound and wise advice to his grandchildren and was a man that would always be there if you needed him. David had a great knowledge about local and national history and was a great story teller. He also boxed Golden Gloves and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife Lois of Owatonna; four daughters, Maureen (and Mike) Fuller of Owatonna; Sally Anhorn (and Tracy Dixon Jr.) of Savannah, GA; Leah Ann (and Abel) Talamantes of Owatonna; Tracy (and Ed) Brasseaur of Owatonna; two sons, Nate (and Debbie) Pfeifer of Hopkins; John (and Kayla) Pfeifer of Milwaukie, OR; 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday, January 2, 2010 from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Memorial services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Michaelson Funeral Home with Reverend Eliazar M. Talamantes officiating. Interment will be held later in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery, Owatonna. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Memorials are preferred to the family.
