IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Deanna C.
Schwering
January 31, 1946 – September 10, 2025
Deanna C. Schwering, age 79, of Owatonna, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. She was born on January 31, 1946, one of nine children to the late Albert and Carol (Auman) Mundy. The family grew up in the Claremont and Hayfield areas, and Deanna graduated from Hayfield High School. In 1964, she married Joe Schwering and they had five children before later divorcing.
When Deanna made Owatonna her home, she worked at NCS (now Pearsons) as a shop supervisor while also working in the cash office at Walmart. In 1999, she moved to Colorado Springs where she continued her career at Walmart until retiring after over 30 years. In July of 2015, Deanna moved back to Owatonna where she was closer to her children.
Deanna was known for her enjoyment of the card game Uno, Wheel of Fortune on her tablet, word searches, Bingo, Mountain Dew, Hawaiian pizza, and of course, the color purple.
She is survived by her children: Tony (Becky), Diane (Denise), and Jeff (Lynda); six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her siblings: Lee (Ruth), Eldon (Susan), Larry (Carol), Dennis (Lisa), Venita (Timothy) Schwantes, and Brenda (Pat) Marchwick; sister-in-law, Barbara Green; and several nieces and nephews.
Deanna was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Thomas Allen and William Joseph; brothers, Steven and Bruce; and her special friend, Elfriede "Fred".
The family of Deanna would like to give a special and heartfelt thank you to the nursing staff at Birchwood Cottages, where she received excellent care the last 10 years.
A gathering to celebrate Deanna's life will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna. The family invites everyone to wear her favorite color, purple, to honor her life.
