Deborah Dianne Avery, 57, of West Concord, Minnesota died Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
She was born April 21, 1959 in El Paso, Texas the daughter of Dune and Celia (Martinez) Hughes. She moved with her family at the age of 10 to Pasadena, CA. Deborah graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1977 and attended Bryman College in Los Angeles, CA for medical assistanting. In 1980, she met her future husband, Leon Avery, in Pasadena, and moved to West Concord, MN in 1981. Deborah and Leon were married October 16, 1982 in Pasadena and made their home in West Concord.
Deborah worked at Olmsted Medical Group until 1983 when they began their family. She then stayed home and home schooled their 4 children. In 1986, Leon and Deborah began L& D Recycling (the D was for Deborah) and in 1992 opened the scrapyard in West Concord where they worked side by side.
Throughout her years, Deborah was also a sales consultant for Mary Kay, Avon, and was currently promoting healthy living for Plexus. She was a member of West Concord Study Club.
Deborah had a love for life and family. She hosted many family holidays and special occasions with lots of love and food; a tradition she learned through her heritage. Her love of travel took her on many adventures including touring Europe and the many cruises with her family and friends. She enjoyed jewelry making, soap making, landscaping, and interior decorating.
Deborah's deep faith and involvement with church was influenced by her grandmother. She was actively involved at Hope Summit Christian Church and had served as special events coordinator for VBS, along with attending mission trips to the Dominican Republic.
She is survived by her husband, Leon Avery of West Concord; four children, Ashley (Devon) Larish of Nerstrand, Whitney (Matthew) Dressel of West Concord, Levi (Mandy) Avery of Rochester, and Dune Avery of West Concord; nine grandchildren, Braylon, Audrey, Adison, and Amelia Larish, Owen, Corbin, Leon, and Mark Dressel, and baby girl Avery on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Hughes; parents-in-law, Tom and Maxine Avery; infant grandson, Asher Dressel; infant twin grandchildren, Larish twins.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, West Concord on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at the church. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Hope Summit Christian Church, 1315 6th Avenue SE, Rochester, Minnesota. Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery in Concord Township.
