DeEtta Young-Erickson, age 97, of Owatonna, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the Homestead Hospice House.
DeEtta was born on October 26, 1922, in Lakefield, the daughter of William and Alvina (Wrase) Wittrock. She graduated from Lakefield High School and after graduation she worked at M.N. Johnson in Lakefield. On December 16, 1945, she was united in marriage to Fred W. Young at St. Peter Lutheran Church. After their marriage they moved to Minneapolis where she worked for AT&T. In 1951, they moved to Santa Monica, CA. where she worked at a loan company for 18 years in Beverly Hills. In 1969, they moved to Owatonna where she worked at Redeemer Lutheran Church for 11 years.
Fred passed away on February 6, 1998. She later married Roy Erickson on February 10, 2001. He passed away on October 27, 2003.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling and going on Senior Place trips. She also enjoyed gardening, knitting and quilting. DeEtta volunteered at Cedarview Care Center, Meals on Wheels and served as an election judge.
DeEtta is survived by her sister, Wilma Sauer of Algona, IA; nieces, Nancy (Jack) Bowen, Gail (David) Swensen and LaNette Reynolds; step-daughters, Sue Andersen of Owatonna, Jane McAnanny of Eagan and Gwen (Jeff) Foster of Nashville, TN; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Young and Roy Erickson; parents; brother, Willis (Hazel) Wittrock; brother-in-law, Gene Sauer; and Godchild, Brian.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Owatonna with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or Homestead Hospice House Patient Care Fund.
