Delores M. Short, age 88, of Kenyon passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at her home with family by her side.
Delores was born in Hector, MN on November 4, 1929, the daughter of Lawrence and Anna (Maurer) Altepeter. She was baptized and confirmed in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN, thereby beginning her devotion to the Catholic Church that lasted her whole life. She spent her early years growing up on the family farm near Euclid, MN. The Altepeter family later moved to a farm located south of Crookston, MN. Delores attended Cathedral High School graduating with the class of 1947. On June 4, 1949, she was united in marriage to David Wayne Short. Together they raised four children Frances, Donna, Patricia, and Michael.
Throughout their married life, Delores and David lived in several cities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Illinois for David's employment. Delores had many careers which included retail work for Montgomery Ward and Kmart. She also had a manufacturing job producing playing cards and calendars at Shedd Brown, and her final career was as the food service chef /director for retirement homes in Eau Claire and Las Vegas. Delores and David moved to the warmer climate of Las Vegas, NV in 1990. In retirement, and throughout her life, Delores made countless friends and companions with her bubbly personality. She enjoyed many hobbies such as bingo, word search puzzles, spending a dollar or two at the local casinos, as well as traveling to fun and exotic locations with her travel club. Delores had a passion for sewing that began even before she won a sewing machine in a local Crookston, MN contest, when Delores and David were first married. Her skills included making clothes for her own children, sewing formal dresses and quilting. Every member of her immediate family and several extended family members were gifted with an extraordinary expression of her talents and love in the gift of a quilt.
After David's passing in December of 1999, Delores carried on with her busy life and hobbies in Las Vegas while continuing to keep up with her family. In 2012, Delores and her family decided she should move one last time so she returned to Minnesota in 2013 to live near her son and his family in Kenyon, MN.
