Dennis D. Klinkenberg, 65, of Owatonna, died on March 28, 2019 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Dennis Dean was born on October 25, 1953 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Amos and Yvonne (Weinberg) Klinkenberg. He attended Holmen High School and graduated in 1972. Dennis entered the United States Army on January 31, 1973 in Minneapolis, and was honorably discharged in 1976 at Fort Dicks in New Jersey with a rank of SP4. Dennis served in the Army Reserves from 1976-1995. He married Jackie Peaslee on July 9, 1977 in Onalaska, Wisconsin and the couple eventually settled in Owatonna. Dennis worked for 27 years as a gas serviceman at Owatonna Public Utilities.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tinkering with engines and other parts in his garage. Dennis was a collector of tools and had a passion for automobiles. He could often be seen at rummage sales or auctions, looking for more automotive engines and parts to fiddle with. He also enjoyed his free coffee, and would convince anyone he could to meet him at the Kernel for breakfast and coffee on the house. Dennis was a stoic man, but also loved to laugh. He pulled pranks often, once even going as far as to weld a co-worker's lunch box shut.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jackie; daughters, Shanna Neece of BoneTerre, Missouri, Dianna Klinkenberg of Owatonna, and Jenna (Travis) Blaszak of Wasilla, Alaska; grandchildren, Kayla Klinkenberg, Alexander Neece, Maximus Neece, and Adam Blaszak; siblings, Melvin Klinkenberg, Marlene Kirchner, Darla Peaslee, Donna Smalley, Leon Klinkenberg, Russell Klinkenberg, and Lonnie Klinkenberg; best friends, Gene Hutchins and Reno Pence; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Yvonne Klinkenberg, and brother, Leroy Klinkenberg.
Dennis gave the ultimate gift and donated his body to the Mayo Foundation for anatomical study. A celebration of life for Dennis will be held at Michaelson Funeral home on Friday, April 5, 2019 from 4-7pm. The family invites guest to come and go as they please, while sharing their favorite memories of Dennis.
Dennis, "I'll meet you when my time is through. Keep the porch light on for me." Love, Jackie.
