Denzil G. Flaten, 64, of Kenyon, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls, with his family at his side. He was born February 18, 1946 in Faribault, Minnesota the son of Kenneth and Rosella (Severson) Flaten. Graduating from Kenyon High School in 1964, he then attended Winona State College and served in the United States Navy. Denzil married Liz Smith at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Randolph, MN on June 17, 1972. He managed the Kenyon Municipal Liquor Store for thirty-seven years, with a tireless work ethic. In retirement Denzil enjoyed working for Held Bus Company and Ag-Reliant, staying busy was always important to him. Denzil was very proud to be a member of the Kenyon Veterans Color Guard. Denzil''s spare time was spent golfing, going to morning and afternoon coffee, playing cribbage, family vacations to Prairie du Chien WI, and Barky's Resort on Ottertail Lake. Most of all Denzil enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife Liz Flaten of Kenyon, daughter, Stacie (and Dennis Zilm) Flaten of Waseca, two granddaughters Kiley, and Arianna, and one brother, Allen (and Beverly) Flaten of El Cajon, CA. stepbrother, John Jacquemart of AZ and step sister Mary Heath of TX. Nieces and a nephew, extended family and friends. His father Kenneth, mother Rosella, and stepfather John Jacquemart preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Monday from 5-8 PM. Memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be at a later date in the Lakeside Cemetery in Randolph.
