Derald William Middlestadt, 92, of Owatonna, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at The Plum House, Morristown. He was born January 22, 1921 in Havana Township the son of William and Mayme (Erdmann) Middlestadt. Derald graduated from Owatonna High School. He worked for the US Postal Service before returning to farming on his family farm. Derald married Elvira Hoffman June 25, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in North Morristown. The couple farmed on his family farm for many years and they were honored to have it recognized as a Century Farm. This year marks the 109th year the farm has been in the family. After retiring from farming, Derald worked for OMC and Rice Lake State Park. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as an usher. Derald loved the woods and wildlife on his farm. He respected the true sportsman that he allowed to hunt on his property. He enjoyed watching TV and loved reading western books and the newspaper. Derald always appreciated good cooking and baking. Derald was a quiet man that truly enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family. He is survived by his wife, Elvira Middlestadt of Owatonna; daughters, Jane (and special friend John Wagner) Middlestadt of Owatonna, Judy (and Dan) Hayes of Rochester; grandchildren, Jayme (and Alex) Neverton of Las Vegas, NV, Jake (and special friend Sarah Rosenboom) Hayes of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by one sister and an infant grandson. Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday from 1pm to 2pm. Funeral services will be held July 13, 2013 at 2pm at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church, Owatonna Public Library, The Plum House or to the donor''s choice.
