Derek W. Diekman, 19, of Owatonna, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at his home. Derek was born May 1, 1989 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Gary and Angie (Huff) Diekman. He lived in Ackley, IA and then in 2002, Derek moved with his family to Owatonna and here he was raised and attended school. Derek had a special love for his family. He enjoyed playing guitar with his Dad and going rafting and fishing. He liked being with his friends and had a great sense of humor. He could make people laugh and they enjoyed having him as a friend. He loved music, but most importantly, Derek never judged people. He always treated people with respect and fairly. He will be sadly missed by his family and his friends. He is survived by his parents, Gary and Angie Diekman of Owatonna; a sister, Kali Diekman of Owatonna; grandparents, Jules and Annie Diekman of Parkersburg, IA; Lew and Carol Huff of Dumont, IA; great grandmother, Betty White of Dumont; aunt and uncles, Deb (and Mark) Neubauer of Ackley; Dennis (and Sheila) Diekman of Springville, IA; Jason Diekman of Grundy Center, IA; Allen (and Tammy) Huff of Owatonna; Aaron (and Tracy) Huff of Dumont and special friend, Jess Juhnke of Owatonna. Derek was preceded in death by his great grandfather, Wallace White. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Sunday, April 19, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 20, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with John Linde officiating.
