Obituary

Diane Marie Holst, 51, of Medford, died Sunday, December 21, 2008 at her home after an extended battle with cancer. Diane was born May 22, 1957 in Owatonna the daughter of Duane and Beverly (Klecker) Hortop. She moved with her family to Medford and then in 1964 they moved to West Concord where she graduated from West Concord High School in 1975. In high school she was active in sports, 4H and at the Moland Lutheran Church. She then attended Winona State University and graduated in 1980 earning a BA degree in Parks and Recreation. She was united in marriage to James Holst on July 22, 1978 in Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna. She enjoyed her work at Cedarview Care Center for 25 years as an activities assistant. She taught Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. She had a laugh that was contagious and a beautiful smile that will be missed. She enjoyed making crafts and decorating for the holidays. Diane was involved with Relay For Life and enjoyed playing volleyball through the Owatonna Rec Program. She especially enjoyed going to garage sales and would carefully plan her route between sales. She is survived by her husband Jim Holst of Medford; three sons, Scott Holst of Medford; Tom (and Ashley Johnson) Holst of Medford; Joel Holst of Medford; mother, Beverly Hortop of Owatonna, two brothers, Mike (and Patty) Hortop of Rochester; Brad (and Beth) Hortop of West Concord; two sisters, Cheryl (and Mike Wille) Kvittem of Faribault; Linda (and Steve) Bucher of West Concord. Diane was preceded in death by her father Duane Hortop and her grandparents. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held December 27, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Memorials are preferred to Owatonna Relay for Life, Cedarview Activities Department or to the American Cancer Society.
