Obituary

Diane M. Nelson, 57, of Owatonna, died Sunday, November 24, 2013, at her home with her family at her side. Diane was born May 8, 1956 in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Laurel and Maurene (Borchert) Grunwald. She was raised on the family farm near Blooming Prairie where she loved riding her horse, Breeze. She attended and graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1974. She then moved to Owatonna and worked for Federated Insurance for 2 years. Diane was united in marriage to Terry Nelson on September 16, 1978 in Owatonna. The couple continued making their home in Owatonna where Diane worked part time as a waitress at the Elks and also worked for 37 years at Josten''s, retiring in 2012. Diane enjoyed telling jokes, playing cards and other games. Being raised in the country, Diane had a "green thumb" and loved growing indoor plants and gardening. If she didn''t have to bait the hook, Diane loved to spend time with Terry fishing and ice fishing on area lakes. Most important to Diane, though, was spending time with her friends and family; she always wanted everyone to be happy. She is survived by her husband Terry Nelson of Owatonna; son Chad Nelson of Minneapolis; daughter Jenny Nelson (and Hilario Larios Martinez) Lake City; mother Maurene Grunwald of Blooming Prairie; a sister Linda (and Mel) Tollefsrud of Rochester and their two sons Jesse and John Tollefsrud of Fort Collins, CO. She was preceded in death by her father, Laurel Grunwald, in 2009. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 26 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, November 27 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Julie Malone officiating. Interment will be held at a later date.
