Dolores J. 'Dee' (Quast) Maher, 83, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. Dolores June Quast was born June 13, 1928 in Arlington, Minnesota the daughter of Herman and Emma (Brockoff) Quast. She was raised in Hutchinson and graduated in 1946. Dee was united in marriage to Merle Maher on August 26, 1950 in Hutchinson. The couple lived in Wanamingo, Winthrop and in 1960, moved to Owatonna. Dee worked for the Owatonna Public Schools in the athletic/activities department. Merle died in April 2005. Dee had many hobbies including, knitting, reading, and cross stich. She was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and also was involved with the church book club, the Alter Guild and the Owatonna Hospital Auxiliary. She loved watching her grandchildren in their activities. Dee loved spending time on the North Shore. Early on, Merle and Dee enjoyed dancing. When they danced you could sense the absolute joy and love of being together. Both Merle and Dee had a deep desire for success in, not only their grandchildren, but for other young people. They wanted to see young adults do well, be successful and would help in anyway they could. She is survived by a daughter, Linda Maher of Waseca; a son, Brian (and Renee) Maher of Pequot Lakes; two sisters, Merva (and Mike) Burich of Hutchinson; Beverly (and Andy) Szymkowicz of Vernon, CT; and three grandchildren, Brianna, Colton and Carissa Maher of Pequot Lakes. She was preceded in death by her husband Merle, her parents, and two sisters, Irma and Ruth. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Monday, August 1, 2011 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service in the church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior''s Lutheran Church.
