Donald L. Dietz, 84, of Owatonna, died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Homestead Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 16, 1925 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Walter and Frances (Orlowski) Dietz. Donald graduated from Owatonna High School in 1943, and began farming with his parents. Donald married Berniece Haberman April 15, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owatonna, and the couple spent their lives together farming, and raising their family. Don was a Patz Equipment dealer for many years where he helped many area farmers update their dairy operations. During this time he was also an Archer Oil dealer manager. Donald was a forty-year board member of the Owatonna Township, member of the Eagles, and lifetime member of the Elks. Berniece died May 21, 2007. Donald never missed his daily drive through the neighborhood to check on the latest news and visit with old friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wildlife, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his children Diane (and Jack) Spitzack, Lou Ellen Dietz-Stoltz, and David (and Linda) Dietz all of Owatonna. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sheila (and Dan) Sawyer, Loren (And Jennifer) Dietz, Beckie (And Ryan) Lippert, Tom Dietz, Jon (and Tera) Arnett, Joshua Arnett, Kate (and Andrew) Joenks, Elizabeth Stoltz, and eleven great grandchildren. His wife and brother George preceded him in death. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday March 3 from 4-8 PM and at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Thursday from 9-10 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday March 4, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Reverend Edward McGrath officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House or Bohemian National Cemetery.
