Donald J. D.J. Schmudlach, 51, of Owatonna, died Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home. He was born December 1, 1966 in Owatonna the son of Donald and Marion (Barker) Schmudlach. D.J. graduated from Owatonna High School in 1985. He worked for Owatonna Park & Recreation prior to moving to Spring Lake Park where he worked for a horse barn as a groom. He lived in Owatonna with his mother and was her primary caregiver prior to her death in 2013. D.J. spent the majority of his life working and playing in Owatonna. D.J. enjoyed fishing, going to the horse races and was a talented painter. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Some of his happiest times were traveling or playing games with his family. His warm sense of humor and gentle soul will live on in the many family memories. He is survived by his sisters, Suzanne (and Rick) Pyburn of Sioux City, IA, Teri (and Gary) Sturgill of Owatonna, Kay (and Ron) Kuhlmann of Red Wing, Deanna Schmudlach of Rochester. D.J. is also survived by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held July 25, 2018 at 2pm at Michaelson Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
