Donald Francis Kiefer, 71, of Medford, died Sunday, October 22, 2017 at Owatonna Hospital. He was born on January 11, 1946 in Taopi the son of Roland and Dorothy (Nicholson) Kiefer. Donald graduated from Adams High School in 1964 and he served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 in Frankfurt, Germany. On August 3, 1968 he married Jean Jirele at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Litomysl. Don worked for Hormel in Austin and was a farmer before starting his career driving truck. He drove for Viracon for over 20 years and accumulated more than 2 million miles accident free. Don retired in 2007. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles Club and the VFW. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Litomysl prior to his membership at Christ the King Catholic Church, Medford for the last 20 years. Don was very devoted to his family. He enjoyed golfing, camping, traveling and fishing with friends and family. He played guitar and was a member of a country western band for many years. He is survived by his wife, Jean Kiefer of Medford; daughter, Karla (David) Sonnenberg of Apple Valley; sons, Ryan (Nicole) Kiefer of Faribault, Douglas (Gretchen) Kiefer of Owatonna, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Kiefer of Pea Ridge, AR; grandchildren, Stephanie, Daniel, Joshua, Samuel, Alyssa, Lukas, Benjamin; brothers, Micheal (Emily) Kiefer, Rodney (Mary) Kiefer, Roger (Shirley) Kiefer; sisters, Beverly Hesch, Sandra (Dale) Bissen, Karen (Wayne) Frank, Lesa (Rick) Cunningham and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Rickey Kiefer. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm with the Medford Knights of Columbus reciting the rosary at 4pm. Visitation will continue at Christ The King Catholic Church on Friday from 9:30am to 10:30am. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27, 2017 at 10:30am at Christ The King Catholic Church, Medford with Father Kevin Connolly officiating.
