Donald Dean Nelson, 80, of Owatonna, formerly of Hastings, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. He was born March 28, 1928 in Inkster, North Dakota the son of Benhard and Hilda (Kubal) Nelson. Graduated from Inskter High School in 1946. He served in the US Army from 1946 to 1951. Donald was a meat cutter for Piggly Wiggly and later worked for the Minnesota Zoo and Smead in Hastings. He lived in Hastings for many years prior to moving to Owatonna 2 years ago. He is survived by his sons, Kevin Nelson of Owatonna, Dean Nelson of Owatonna; daughter, Jamie (and Tom) Sweet of Owatonna; step daughter, Sue Ballstadt of Clarksville, TN; 3 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Elmer Nelson of Rochester, Gordon (and Rita) Nelson of Fargo; sister, Winifred "Dolly" Pedersen of Seattle, WA; Donald was preceded in death by a son, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 1-2 pm. Funeral services will be held December 5, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Michaelson Funeral Home. Interment will be in Ft.
