Donald E. Thiede, 90, of Owatonna, died Sunday, January 1, 2012 at Owatonna Hospital. He was born July 22, 1921 in New Ulm, Minnesota the son of Edwin and Stella (Mattson) Thiede. Donald married Lorayne (Peplinski) on February 15, 1942 in San Diego, CA. There Donald worked for the aircraft plant. He enlisted into the Merchant Marines in 1942 and served in WWII. They moved to Owatonna in 1959. Donald''s employment included Chicago North Western Railroad Co., Cashman''s Greenhouse, Cedar View Care Center, and the Minnesota Highway Department from which he retired. Donald enjoyed traveling in his motor home, joking with friends and family, and fishing. He is survived by daughter, Terri (and Denny) Reiman of Glendale, AZ; son, Donald 'Reg' (and Verna) Thiede of Owatonna; 5 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his wife Lorayne, his parents; and his brother Lloyd Thiede. Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Michaelson Funeral Home.
