Donald Don VanSickle, 81, of rural Owatonna, died accidentally at his home on Friday, December 1, 2017. He was born on February 21, 1936 in Starbuck, Minnesota the son of William and Mabel (Frank) VanSickle. He grew up in Evansville, Minnesota and moved to Owatonna in 1952 as a teenager. He worked with his father in establishing the OK Tire Store. On September 15, 1956, he married Janice Ballstadt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. After a few years, he took over the tire store. A career change took Don to Alaska where he worked on the Alaska Pipeline for the next 20 years. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, helping others and working his hobby acreage. He was a former, long-time member of the Isaac Walton League. He and Janice spent 61 blessed and happy years together. His loving generosity will never be forgotten by those he touched.
He is survived by his wife Janice VanSickle of Owatonna; children, Randy (Cyndy Stonecypher) VanSickle of Kenai, AK, Scott (Allen) Van Sickle of San Diego, CA, Corey (Patti) Van Sickle of Savage, and Leslie (Ed) Kurzontkowski of Owatonna; grandchildren, Mitchell (Carrie) VanSickle of Rochester, Cord (Jen) VanSickle of Waterloo, IA, Kyrsten (Jesse) Ackerson of Owatonna, Zarek (Cortney) Kozel of Owatonna; great-grandchildren, Laken Ackerson, Atlas Ackerson and Zola Kozel all of Owatonna and sisters, Jeanette Hanson of Tennessee, Wilma McGowan of Minnesota and Kathy (Dave) DeMets of Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mabel and brothers-in-law, Allen Hanson and Duane McGowan
In honor of Don's wishes, a private, family, memorial service will be held at a later date.
