Donna Mae Swanson, 91, of Owatonna passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, September 19, 2014 at the Medford Care Center. Donna was diagnosed with cancer in 1995 and trusted God and went into remission for many years. It never slowed her down. She had a recent fast decline and spent her last days surrounded by family. Donna was born August 14, 1923 in St. Paul, Minnesota the daughter of Donald and Astor (Olson) Frentz She married Cleland Swanson her high school sweetheart in 1942 and they were married 72 years. They spent 40 years in Kenyon and then moved to Owatonna in 2006 to be close to family. Donna loved her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking and celebrating the holidays. She loved antiques and fleamarkets, sewing, quilting and sending cards to her family and friends. She was a Girl Scout and 4H leader and member of the Literary Club. She was very involved in her church. She was an avid sports fan. She attended all her grandchildrens sporting events and cheered on all the players by their names. She also followed professional sports on television. Donna loved the color purple and wherever we see the color purple we think of her and always will. She is survived by her husband, Cleland Swanson, Medford, MN; 5 children, Sandra (Derald) Telschow, Owatonna, MN, Muriel (Daniel) Klatt, Owatonna, MN, Sue (Gene) Theuer, Baudette, MN, Debbie (Kevin) Estrem, Colorado Springs, CO, Don (Rae Ann) Swanson, Monticello, MN; 6 grandchildren, Shari (Joe) Wickman, Owatonna, MN, Lori (Rich) Anderson, Owatonna, MN, Brenda (Curt) Homeier, Owatonna, MN, Cassi (Daniel Garcia) Estrem, Broomfield, CO, Taylor Swanson, Moundsview, MN, Mitchel (Francie) Swanson, Eagan, MN; 5 great grandchildren, Dalton, Taryn, Derek, Trevor and Brad; brother-in-law, Robert C. Swanson, Faribault, MN and her extended family. She is preceded by her parents and 2 sisters-in-law. Visitation will be at First Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon with The Reverend Luther Mathsen officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
