Doris LaNell Gretz, 70, formerly of Montezuma, Iowa, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2024 at her home in Owatonna, MN.
She was born October 8, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Roa "Maxey" and Billie (Garrett) Hester. She grew up in Montezuma and graduated from Montezuma High School in 1972. She met her future husband, Michael David Gretz, while working together at Sig Mfg. They married on January 12, 1973. Doris was a factory worker at Sig for many years performing various functions in the production of model airplanes. She loved animals – especially horses and dogs. As a youth, she broke horses and was a barrel racer - a true cowgirl. She loved dogs of all shapes and sizes, but she found a passion for training and showing Newfoundlands - and participating with them for search and rescue operations. Doris had a heart for volunteering – from visiting the residents of the old soldiers home to managing the gift shop at the antique airfield and many other things in between, she always kept busy. Doris is well-known for her creativity and craftsmanship, creating various types of crafts as gifts and to sell. Most of all, though, she loved her grandchildren, sharing her talents, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by son, David (and Angie) Gretz of Owatonna; grandchildren, Jaidyn, Michael, Ariana, and Jackson Gretz; great-grandchildren, Caesyn Kramer, Bennett Kramer, Lucas Gretz, and Lilith Gretz; sisters, Nancy (and Tony) Lammers of Brooklyn, IA, and Joyce Hester of Montezuma, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband Michael Gretz; parents, Maxey and Billie Hester; daughter, Esther Gretz; brothers, Daniel, Harold, and David Hester.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 17 August, 2024 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Faribault, MN at 11:00am. Interment will be in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma, Iowa.
