Dorothy Parrott Tripp, 91, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Owatonna Hospital from natural causes. Dorothy Jane Parrott was born July 9, 1921 in Owatonna the daughter of Roy W. and Dot (Wood) Parrott. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Methodist Church and graduated from Owatonna High School. Dot attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon, IA and in 1943 earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Minnesota. She was united in marriage to Wallace Melrose Tripp on March 12, 1946 at First Methodist Church in Owatonna and in 1949 they made Owatonna their home. After Wallace retired from his law practice in 1989, they resided in Naples, FL during the winter months. While raising her family, Dot led the Story Hour Program at the Owatonna Public Library for 17 years. She was active in the community serving on the boards of the Owatonna Hospital, American Red Cross, and was a past president of the Women's Board at the Owatonna Country Club. Dot also was a longtime member of the Owatonna Centennial Club, the Owatonna Women's Club, Owatonna United Methodist Church and the North Naples Methodist Church. Dot was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family at their Lake Jefferson cabin. She enjoyed playing golf with friends and traveling the world with her husband. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, Wally Tripp of Owatonna; a son David (Julie) Tripp of Sauk Rapids; and a daughter-in-law Patricia Tripp of Chanhassen. She will also be sadly missed by her six grandchildren, Stephen Tripp, Andrew Tripp, Jonathan Tripp, Aaron (Amy) Tripp, Rachel (Christopher) Moore, and Katie (Stephen) LeVoir. She was preceded in death by her son, Douglas, a brother George Parrott and her parents, Roy and Dot Parrott. Visitation for Dot will be held at the United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A memorial service celebrating the life of Dot will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church with The Reverend Loren Olson officiating. A private interment service will follow on Friday. Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna Foundation and the United Methodist Church of Owatonna. Arrangements by Michaelson Funeral Home.
