Dorothy Jean Pitan , 86, of rural Medford, died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at her home. She was born April 9, 1923 in Deerfield Township the daughter of George and Grace (Lang) Golnick. Dorothy graduated from Medford High School and then attended one year of school at Macalester College. Dorothy married Melvin Pitan August 25, 1946 in Clinton Falls. The couple lived on Melvin's home farm where they raised his younger brother, Maynard and their three children, Rodney, Delbert and Linda. Dorothy served on the Medford School Board and was an active member of The Associated Church. She worked at Jostens and the license bureau in Owatonna. She will long be remembered for her talents as a seamstress and the bread she baked. Dorothy's family was important to her with her grandchildren being the brightest point in her life. She is survived by her husband Melvin Pitan of Medford; son, Delbert (and Janda) Pitan of Owatonna; daughter, Linda (and Gary) Kingery of Reading; daughter-in-law, Rossana Corey-Vick of Medford; grandchildren, Nicholas Pitan, Bradley Pitan, Dustin Pitan, Andrew Pitan, Breezy Pitan, Sabrina (and Brad) Sowles, Heath Kingery, Shelby Kingery; great granddaughter, Izabella Pitan. Dorothy was preceded in death by one son and one brother. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm and at The Associated Church on Friday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held August 28, 2009 at 11:00am at The Associated Church with Dr. Ronald D. Wilson officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
