Duane William Fredrickson, 79, of Kenyon, died Sunday, December 28, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born January 19, 1935 in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota the son of William and Freda (Dennis) Fredrickson. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Hawaii where he worked in transportation and proudly earned his rifle marksmanship. He was honorably discharged. Duane married Irene Thompson on October 27, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Dodge Center. They resided in the Twin Cities and Claremont prior to purchasing their farm in Kenyon in 1958. Duane milked cows for 7 years, and for many years raised beef cattle. He loved International tractors and sold used farm equipment.
Duane was a member of Gol Lutheran Church, American Legion, and 40 and 8. He managed the Kenyon Wanamingo Legion Baseball Team for 22 years and was active in fundraising. Duane and Irene were members of the Steam Engine Club in Dundas. They also attended tractor shows throughout Minnesota. Duane enjoyed collecting, especially clocks, guns, and yardsticks. He loved gardening, and was proud of his tomatoes and trees. He also enjoyed raising Shelties.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Fredrickson of Kenyon; his daughters, Sharon (and Bill) Parsons of Kenyon, and Debra Hoffman of Faribault; three grandchildren, Jaymeson (and Donna) Parsons, Joshua (and Rhonda) Parsons, and Jesse Hoffman; six great grandchildren, Skyler, Ethan, William, and Jacob Parsons, Jesse Jr. and Jason Hoffman; two step great grandchildren, Brady and Zach Harman; brother, Earl (and Ruth) Fredrickson of Kenyon; sister, Phyllis (and Roger) Maring of Northfield; sister-in-law, Joan Fredrickson of Los Angeles, CA; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Maxine Fredrickson, and brother, Allan Fredrickson.
Visitation will be at Gol Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Gol Lutheran Church with Pastor Marvin Kormann officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon with military honors conducted by the Kenyon Color Guard. Memorials are preferred to Gol Lutheran Church. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
