Obituary

Duane Groseth Paulson, 94, of Owatonna, died peacefully in his sleep, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at The Emeralds in Faribault.

He was born on November 5, 1929 in Centerville, S.D., Clay County to Gustav (G.I.) and Ida Paulson. He grew up in the West Concord/Dodge Center area and graduated from West Concord High School in 1947. After graduation he began farming with his dad. On August 31, 1951, he married Doris Meitzner from Claremont, at the First Baptist Church in West Concord. The couple made their home on a farm between Dodge Center and Claremont. In 1965, they moved to a small farm south of Owatonna where they raised their eight children. They were married for 68 years!

Duane worked for 27 years at the Wenger Corporation in Owatonna. He was gifted in many areas of manufacturing and ended his career as an engineer. He enjoyed building things and would often attend sportsman's shows, look at a new product, then go home and make it the way he wanted it! His designs and creations ranged from building ice fishing houses to board games, as well as oil paintings. Fishing and hunting were also passions of his. In 1967, he built his beloved lake cabin near Hackensack, MN. His years of hunting were spent north of Orr, MN where he had a hunting shack for the past 30 years. His love for traveling and camping often led to the mountains.

He especially enjoyed teaching his family and friends the Bible, how to hunt, fish, fix almost anything and build things. People often sought him out for personal advice and counsel. He had a teacher's heart and loved serving his church. Along with teaching and discipleship, he shared his musical talents. He sang in the church choir, men's quartet and duets with Doris. Over the years he served at First Baptist Church in West Concord, Bethel Church in Owatonna and was instrumental in starting Cornerstone Evangelical Free Church, Owatonna.

Duane dearly loved his wife, children and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his brothers, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family and countless friends. Most of all, Duane loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

He is survived by his children; Debbie (Larry) Adams of Rosemount, Dan (Penny) Paulson of Alexandria, Dennis (Cathy) Paulson of Young America, Doyle (Nancy) Paulson of Waterville, Dean (Sharri) Paulson of Duluth, Diane (Bob) Dalberg of Ely, Dawn Paulson of Owatonna, Darci (Chris) Ensminger of Colfax, IA; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, brothers Delano Paulson of Kasson and Russell Paulson of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

He was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents G.I. and Ida Paulson, brothers LeRoy and Glendon Paulson, and great-granddaughter, Violet Paulson.

The Paulson family would like to thank the staff at Ecumen Brooks in Owatonna for their wonderful care of Duane over the past four years.
