Edna Freida Meyer, 91, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Edna (Dohrmann) Meyer was born to Emiel and Anna (Mensing) Dohrmann on October 28, 1925 at the family farm near Claremont, Minnesota. She was raised on the farm and walked two miles to the country school for eight years. She graduated from the West Concord High School in June, 1943. Edna worked on the farm and did household work for neighbors.
On July 29, 1944, she married George Meyer at St. Francis de Sales Church in Claremont. They lived in the West Concord area for 60 years. She worked side by side with George in the fields, driving tractor, milking cows and all the farming duties. They also worked at the Kenyon Canning Company during fall corn pack. Together, they raised five children.
Edna loved old time dancing and listening to old time music, playing bingo and cards, gardening and flowers, quilting and CCW at St. Vincent Catholic Church in West Concord where she was a member. She made baby quilts and wedding quilts for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved to attend the activities of her grandchildren. Edna and George enjoyed flying to Las Vegas to visit their son, Don (Deb), visiting other relatives and friends, took many road trips, went on fishing trips to Canada and northern Minnesota and a took a tour trip to Hawaii.
She is survived by her five children, Don (Deb) Meyer of Las Vegas, Alice (Jim) Miesbauer of Byron, Ron (Kathy) Meyer of West Concord, Joanne (Leon) Charlton of Cannon Falls and Nancy (Mike) Littlefield of Rochester; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Meyer in 2004; sister, Mildred Trapp and brothers, Edward and Harold Dohrmann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Vincent's Cemetery, Madonna Meadows of Rochester, National MS Society of MN or American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in West Concord on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 4-8pm and at the church one hour prior to the service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in West Concord on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11am with Fr. Thomas Niehaus officiating. Interment will be in the St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
