Edward Steven Block, 93, of Owatonna, died Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born November 19, 1925, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin the son of Edward and Gladys Block. He attended school in Eau Claire until his senior year when he transferred to Owatonna High School and graduated. He served in the United States Air Force from December 5, 1943, until his honorable discharge on September 27, 1945. He flew 36 missions in a B-17 as a Ball Turret Gunner. On May 24, 1944, he married Deloris Deck in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their family. Following his military service, Ed began working for Thon Plumbing and Heating which he later purchased and changed the name to Block Plumbing and Heating. Upon retirement, he sold the business. Ed enjoyed lake life, wood carving, and playing cribbage. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. His quick wit and sense of humor made it easy for him to make many friends. He was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife Deloris; son, Todd (and Mary) Block; daughter in law, Judy Block; siblings, Tom (and Mary Ann) Block and Audrey (and Joe) Murphy; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Gladys; sons, Steven and Rodney and siblings, Richard "Dick" Block and Jane Gollman.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna on Thursday, June 27, 2019 one hour prior to the funeral service at 10:30am. Interment with military honors by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna
