Edward John Matul Jr., 57, of Kenyon, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 23, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born January 29, 1962 in Chicago, Illinois the son of Edward and Geraldine (Edwards) Matul, and grew up in Brementowne, IL. Ed graduated from Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park, IL in 1980. He started his security career in retail, and then worked 20 years at Panduit Corporation. He married Barbara Groth May 14, 1994 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Joliet, IL. The couple lived in Illinois until moving to Kenyon in 2005. Ed worked for Kleese Construction until resuming his security career, at Federated Insurance, and most recently as Security Account Manager at Normandale Lake Office Park for Securitas Security.
Ed loved coaching youth sports. He was very encouraging and positive with kids helping them enjoy the sport and see their potential. He coached community ed soccer and baseball. Ed also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and cheering for his Chicago sports teams. He bowled on leagues in Illinois, Zumbrota and Pine Island.
He is survived by Barbara of Kenyon; daughter, Stephanie (and Derik) Quam of Red Wing; son, Eddie Matul of Kenyon; mother, Geraldine Matul-Koppitz of Plainfield; brother, Wayne (and Debbie) Matul of Shorewood, Il and nieces Erin Groth, Megan Groth, and Michelle McNamara, and nephews Dave and Eric Matul.
He was preceded in death by father, Edward Matul, Sr.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home, Kenyon on Wednesday from 4pm to 7pm and at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Thursday from 12pm to 1pm. Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 1pm at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenyon with Pastor Julie Rogness officiating. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Kenyon Area Historical Society.
