Obituary

Eileen "Sid" Strandemo died peacefully at home in Kenyon, Minnesota, surrounded by family, on October 17, 2023, at the age of 98. She was born at home during a snow storm on October 5, 1925, to George and Edna (Lee) Hanson. When she was born her older brother could not say sister but he could say Siddy which was shortened to Sid for the rest of her life. She graduated from Kenyon High School in 1943. While in HS she was a majorette and drum major for the marching band. She married Raymond Orlando Strandemo on January 16, 1944, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon. They first lived on the family farm in Ellington Township, Dodge County, then in Stewartville and back to Kenyon. Sid and Ray raised five children: Gary, Ann, Davis, Mary and Mark. Over the years she had multiple jobs consisting of working at the local grocery store, Kenyon Canning Company, bookkeeper at Kenyon Skelgas, and office manager of People's Natural Gas when gas lines were laid in Kenyon. She was office worker at Kenyon Elementary School before transferring to Kenyon High School. During this time she also also did the Kenyon News broadcast for KDHL radio for 27 years. She was a very talented crafter and loved quilting. She was a member of the Priscilla Club at First Lutheran Church for many years. She loved spending as much time as possible at their blue cottage on Lake Miltona where she enjoyed a cup of coffee on her paddleboat and watching the loons. She looked forward to having annual visitors return to her yellow cottage right next door. She was fortunate to enjoy trips to Norway, Mexico, Bahamas, South Carolina, Washington, New York and Colorado. She was a very loving caregiver to many family members when needed. Most precious to her was her family. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara (Gary) Strandemo of St. Cloud with granddaughter Rosa Strandemo of St. Paul; Ann (Dale) Stensland of Wanamingo, Mary (Rick) Ohland of Miltona, and Mark (Trudy) Strandemo of Eagan with granddaughter Kristen Scarpetta of Farmington and grandson Steven (Molly) Scarpetta of Oregon with great- grands Mia, Josie and William; Grandson Jeremy (Sheryl) Vold of Rochester with great-grands Emily, Becka and Alex; Grandson Aaron (Haley) Vold of Rochester with great-grands Savannah, Morgan, Haaken, and Sidnee; Granddaughter Kirstyn (JJ) Yochim of Rochester with great-grands Devyn, Tanner, and Brant Dickison, and Drew and Aiden Yochim; Granddaughter Mona (Tony) Murray of Eagan with great-grands Raechel, Camryn and Alexys; Grandson Jeff Dinsen of Ostego with great-grands Hanna, Evan, Kayla and Mia; Granddaughter Erica (Mike) Claessens of Shakopee with great-grands Andie, Kacie, Siri, Wesley, and Zachary.
