Elda Martha (Buchholz) Fossum, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Potter Ridge Assisted Living in Red Wing at the age of 98. She was born September 16, 1920 in Red Wing the daughter of John and Anna Martha (Ahrens) Buchholz. Elda graduated from Goodhue High School in 1939. After graduation, she worked as a beautician for a short period of time. Elda married Novel "Sonny" Fossum January 6, 1942. They lived on her family farm in rural Goodhue where they farmed together for many years and raised two children. Elda, lovingly known as Bumma to her family, was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a member of Goodhue Lioness Club. Elda had a joyful spirit and loved to attend polka dances with her husband, Sonny. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, fishing, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her jovial nature, her hospitality and love of fun. She is survived by her son, Robert Fossum; granddaughters, Kristy (and Matt) Jacobson, Heidi (and Mik) Gusenius; son-in-law, Ray Sands; sister-in-law, Nancy Menth; great-grandchildren, Bryan Jacobson, Colin Jacobson, Rylan Gusenius and Marika Mari Gusenius. She was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Buchholz; parents, John and Anna Martha (Ahrens) Buchholz; husband Novel "Sonny" Fossum; and daughter, Susan Sands. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Goodhue on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Martin Weigand officiating.
