Eleanor M. Johnson, age 88, of Owatonna, died Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Medford Senior Care in Medford.
Eleanor Mae Drache was born on June 24, 1928, in Owatonna, Minnesota the daughter of Ewald and Mabel (Sable) Drache. She attended country school in District #36. After her schooling, she worked at Owatonna Canning. On May 31, 1950, Eleanor married Leonard Johnson at St. John Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their family. Along with raising her family, Eleanor worked for 18 years as a cook in school, in the deli at Hy-Vee and as a desk clerk at the Senior Center in Owatonna. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Hospital Auxiliary, the V.F.W. Post #3723 Auxiliary and the American Legion Post #77 Auxiliary. For many years, she assisted Leonard with the cooking duties at the American Legion. Eleanor enjoyed embroidering dish towels, pitching horseshoes, cross stich, latch hook, fishing up north on Mille Lacs and reading. She was very outgoing, had a big smile and a hug for everyone.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard of Owatonna; children, Larry (Sharon) Johnson of Rochester, MN and Todd (Tracy) Johnson of Radcliffe; IA; brothers, Carl (Marge) Drache of Owatonna and Dale (Barb) Drache of Prescott, AZ; sister-in-law, Diane Drache of Owatonna; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ewald and Mabel; children, George Johnson and Janice Lund and siblings, Betty Drache, James Drache and Sandra (Al) Hansen.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, September 8, 2016, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens in Owatonna. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Wednesday, September 7th at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna and at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the service. There will be a V.F.W. Auxiliary Prayer Service at 6:00pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are preferred to the donors choice.
