Elizabeth Alice Malloy, 85, of Kenyon, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester. Elizabeth Alice Covert was born January 14, 1924 near Nerstrand the daughter of Elmer and Ella (Dierking) Covert the second of five children. She was raised near Nerstrand and attended elementary school there and later graduated from Faribault High School. She went on to teacher training school in Red Wing. She spent several years teaching in a one-room school house east of Nerstrand. She met Donald Malloy while roller skating at the Nerstrand rink. They were married on June 16, 1948 at St. John's UCC of rural Nerstrand, a union that lasted nearly 59 years. The couple joined Dale Lutheran Church and became life-long members. Elizabeth taught Sunday School for four decades and was active in many and various church activities. They resided at the Malloy Family farm in Cherry Grove Township and she taught school for several more years in a one-room school nearby (District 109) before abandoning her career to raise a family of four children. She should be remembered for her passion for environmental issues. She loved planting and caring for trees and feeding the birds. She always said we should leave this world a little better than we found it. There are a lot of areas in Cherry Grove Township where trees were planted by Elizabeth and a crew of 4-Hers.
