Elmer Donald Oppegard, 92, of Kenyon, died Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. He was born October 5, 1920 in Wells Township, Rice County, Minnesota the son of Eric and Tina (Freitem) Oppegard. He was the third youngest child of nine children. He attended country school then Faribault High School. He worked for a short time prior to being drafted into the United States Army. He began his service on August 31, 1942 and was stationed in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater until his honorable discharge on October 18, 1945. After the service he worked as a farm hand in the Morristown and Kilkenny area. He married JoAnn Jenson on October 27, 1962 at Gol Lutheran Church. Elmer purchased the farm from JoAnn''s parents in Richland Township, where they dairy and crop farmed. Elmer retired at his 90th birthday after he put up his last bale of hay. His love of his life was his wife, JoAnn. Together they would enjoy attending dances and traveling. Elmer also enjoyed the outdoors, farming, fishing, playing cards, animals, and his dog, Goldie. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, JoAnn Oppegard of Kenyon; his brother, Warren Oppegard of Lincoln, NE; many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Alice (and Ben) Ellerbusch, Tilman (and Beth) Oppegard, Tillie (and Gordy) Richardson, Hazel (and Harold) Schramm, Cora (and Orvin) Helrude, Ray Oppegard, and Valborg (and Paul) Nystedt. Visitation will be at Gol Lutheran Church, Kenyon on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Gol Lutheran Church with Pastor Marvin Kormann officiating. Interment will be in the Gol Lutheran Cemetery in Kenyon .
