Elsmer George John Eaker, 94, of Owatonna, died Friday, October 11, 2019 at Koda Living Community.
He was born September 30, 1925 in Aurora Township the son of Alvin and Hilda (Hintz) Eaker. Elsmer grew up farming with his father in Aurora Township and attended country school. On October 6, 1961 he married Gladys Villwock in Iowa. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their family. He worked at the Owatonna Canning Company for 35 years retiring in 1991 and then continued to work part time for the canning company until 2000. Elsmer also worked part time for Owatonna Park and Rec. only leaving to be a full time caregiver for Gladys.
Elsmer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as an usher for several years. He was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He enjoyed scenic car rides, trips to the casino, playing cards, John Deere tractors and going on walks. Elsmer took great pride in his yard and enjoyed taking time to mow and make it look beautiful. Elsmer loved time spent with his family and playing double solitaire with his great grandson.
He is survived by daughters, Judy (and Chuck) Gilman of Sacramento, CA, Lorie Eaker of Plymouth; son-in-law, Gene Weinzetl of Owatonna; granddaughters, Jessica (and Drew) Ernakovich, Hannah (and Luke) Anderson, Kelly (and Jason) Schwartz; great grandchildren, Alexis, Gavin, Gibson, London, Clark, Hank, Ben, Stella; sister, Audrey Bohlman, Vivian (and Mike) Quast; brother-in-law, Jacob Simonson; sister-in-law, Joan Villwock and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Eaker; daughters, Jean Mollenhauer, Vickie Weinzetl; sister, LaVonne Simonson.
Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 9am to 11am. Funeral services will be held October 16, 2019 at 11am at Trinity Lutheran Church with The Reverend Amanda Floy officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
