Elvin Merle Swant, 83, of Owatonna, died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at St. Lucas Care Center.
He was born December 7, 1933 in Nashville Township, Martin County the son of Owen and Ruth (Hall) Swant. Elvin graduated from Blue Earth High School. He served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956. Following the service he worked for Boeing in Washington State prior to moving to Idaho Falls, ID where he owned a hotel. After that, he worked in the Heating and Cooling business in Sioux Falls, SD, Omaha, NE, and finally in Richardson, TX. When Elvin retired, he moved to Owatonna in 1995. He enjoyed working for several years at the Straight River North Rest Area on Interstate 35.
Elvin was a member of Northridge Church. He was a hard working family man that enjoyed reading, cooking and baking. Elvin had great sense of humor which he shared with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Miryam Swant of Owatonna; daughter, Gwen (and Steve) McKay of Kechi, KS; son, Andrew Swant of Owatonna; grandchildren, Emily McKay, Ethan McKay; sister, Evelyn Bell of Blue Earth, Betty Swant of Winnebago, Ellen Matheson of Frostproof, FL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Burrows and an infant sister.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 9am to 10am. Memorial services will be held June 28, 2017 at 10am at Michaelson Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Perryman officiating. Interment will be in the Nashville Cemetery in Winnebago at a later date.
