Eugene "Gene" R. DeBus, age 83, of Owatonna died on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Mayo Mankato Hospital.

Eugene DeBus, the son of Edward and Anita (Kakeldey) DeBus, was born on February 25, 1941, in Welcome, Minnesota. He graduated from Welcome High School in 1959, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After serving four years he returned to Minnesota. On May 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to Marsha Meyer in St. Paul. They lived in Minneapolis until moving to Owatonna in 1971. Gene worked as an electrician in construction in various locations until he retired in 2003. He enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers especially tomatoes. Gene also enjoyed a drive through the country side. Gene loved spending time with his 23 years old cat, Buddy, who ironically, died just a few hours after Gene. He was a member of the Eagles, the American Legion and St. John Lutheran Church although he also liked attending Zwingly United Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife Marsha DeBus of Owatonna, children Michael (Sandra) DeBus of Dodge Center, Patrick (Staci) DeBus of Owatonna and Scott DeBus of Owatonna; grandchildren Miranda DeBus, Carter DeBus, Griffin DeBus and great grandchild Daxton Jech. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings.

A private family service will be held on Sunday, March 17th at Zwingli United Church of Christ; flowers can be arranged through Cedar Floral 507-451-7673.
