Eugene Charles Hundeby, 81, of Zumbrota, died Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Birchwood Cottages.
Gene was born October 30, 1937 in Beardsley, the son of Charles "Chick" and Marjorie (Cowden) Hundeby. Gene was enlisted in the United States Army and stationed in White Sands, New Mexico. He married Patricia Burgin and together, they started a family. Gene began his career as a teacher in Henderson, Minnesota before relocating to Zumbrota, where he worked as an agriculture teacher for most of his life. His career in teaching continued for over 40 years. Along with teaching, he also worked full time at Land-O-Lakes in Pine Island, coached softball, and taught driver's education classes.
Gene was an extremely hard worker throughout his life. His passion for agriculture began when he was young on the farm and continued through his years teaching. He cared for his students and enjoyed seeing them succeed. Gene also enjoyed attending garage sales and antiquing.
He is survived by his children, Jeannine Hundeby of Minneapolis, Joseph (Theodra) Hundeby of St. Augusta, and Colleen (Jeff) Bentson of Spain; step-children, Frank Burgin of Northeast Minneapolis, Sherry (Darwin) Frank of Rochester; grandchildren, Erica, Adam, Katie, Patrick, Eli, Calvin, Robert, Charlie, Henry, and Oscar; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Emma, Carter, and Jackson; and close family friends, Judy Zilm and Jill Plank.
He was preceded in death by Patricia Burgin, and grandchildren, Stacy Hundeby and Niles Hundeby.
Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Zumbrota VFW from 2-5pm. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
