Obituary

Eva P. Olson, 90, of Woodbury, formerly of Owatonna, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 26, 2009 and is today in heaven with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Owatonna, November 5, 1919, the daughter of George and Anna (Truhlar) Pichner. Eva graduated from Owatonna High School and married Edwin C. Olson on April 15, 1945. Eva loved music and played accordion/piano for the Jerry Ripka and Al Ruzak bands in the 40''s. She worked at the Owatonna Bakery where she met her husband. Eva and Ed had 2 children and opened a bakery in Belmond, Iowa which they operated until his death in 1954. She worked at the Belmond Clinic and then opened her own beauty shop in her home until she returned to Owatonna in 1979 to be closer to her family. She was employed with Wenger Corporation and then the Owatonna School District until her retirement in 1989. She adored her twin granddaughters and was an after school granddaughter sitter'' for several years; she especially enjoyed helping with their music lessons, playing the piano as they practiced violin and viola. In January of 2009, she moved to Woodbury to live close to her daughter. Eva was active in the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Auxiliary 1791 Owatonna and CSA; she served as secretary for both organizations for 10+ years. She was a member of Our Savior''s Lutheran Church of Owatonna and enjoyed giving to the community. Eva volunteered with Meals on Wheels, pancake breakfasts at the Eagles, chaperon/cook for youth trips to Colorado, church choirs, and baked for many fund raisers, to name a few. For her work in the community, Eva was honored with special recognition, including Steele County Senior Citizen of the Year (1998), CSA Fraternalist of the Year (2000), Minnesota State Auxiliary Madam Secretary of the Year (2006). Eva was preceded in death by her husband Ed; brothers-in-law Anton Olson, Merlin Cole, Jimmie Olson, Rex Metcalf; sisters-in-law Erlys Cole Irene Metcalf. Most of all, Eva loved her family; she is survived by her children Ed (Eileen) Olson of Owatonna, Barb (Mike) Brown of Maplewood; grandchildren Stephanie (Kyle) Hendricks of E. Peoria, IL, Gretchen Olson of Owatonna and her fianc Travis Anderson of Waterville; sister Ruth (Larry) Ruehling of Owatonna; sisters-in-law Marion Utpadel of Owatonna, Mary Ann (Bill) Rohwer of Medford, JoAnn Olson of Ellendale; beloved nieces and nephews, and cherished friends. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009 from 3pm to 7pm and at Our Savior''s Lutheran Church on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009 from 9am to 10am. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 10:00am at Our Savior''s Lutheran Church with The Reverend John Weisenburger officiating. Interment will be in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to Our Savior''s Lutheran Church, Bohemain National Cemetery or to the donor''s choice.
