Evelyn M. Balzer, 95, of Blooming Prairie, died July 31, 2015 at the Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie. She was born June 24, 1920 in Steele County the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Jirele) Wurst. Evelyn attended country school and Blooming Prairie School. She then worked a few years for Jostens before marrying Joseph Balzer November 20, 1945 at Associated Church in Owatonna. The couple farmed together for many years near Bixby. Joseph died July 25, 2005. Joe and Evelyn enjoyed going on fishing trips together, and she belonged to the Bixby Westside Club. She is survived by her sisters, Adeline Frey of Owatonna, Berniece (Jerry Loew) Loew of Blooming Prairie, and brother, Joseph (Shirley) Wurst of Blooming Prairie, and a sister in law, Loretta Wurst of Blooming Prairie. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph, 3 brothers Fred, Edmund, and Wilfred and two sisters Albina Stebbins and Helen Nelson. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home - Owatonna on Monday August 3, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm., and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 4, 2015 at 10:30 am at Michaelson Funeral Home - Owatonna with Pastor Jim Oberg officiating. Interment will be in the in Owatonna Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Prairie Manor Nursing Home.
