Evelyn Ruth Bernet, 89, of Owatonna, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, May 17, 2024 in Owatonna.

She was born on August 19, 1934, in New Ulm the beloved daughter of Kurt and Erna (Harms) Sauer. Her early education at St. Paul's Lutheran School was the cornerstone of her deep and abiding Christian faith.

Evelyn graduated from New Ulm High School in 1952 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Education from Mankato State in 1956. She began her teaching career in Windom and Owatonna, where she touched many young lives with her dedication and kindness.

On August 9, 1958, Evelyn married Robert Bernet in New Ulm. The couple settled in Owatonna, where they lovingly raised their three children. Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was characterized by her selfless service to others.

Evelyn was deeply involved in her community. She volunteered at the Food Co-op and was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday school and confirmation teacher. She was also a member of the Owatonna Women's Club, Home Economics Club, and the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Additionally, she was a dedicated 4-H leader, always supportive and engaged in her children's activities.

Evelyn had a variety of passions that enriched her life and the lives of those around her. She enjoyed birdwatching, gardening, cooking, baking, and sewing. Winters spent in Arizona with her husband and friends, along with her love for travel and ballroom dancing, added to her joy and fulfillment.

Evelyn's life was a testament to the kind and gentle spirit of servanthood. She is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Robert L. Bernet of Owatonna; children, Julia (and Robert) Wacloff of Tempe, AZ, Vincent (and Suzanne) Bernet of Maplewood, Alicia (and David) Jacobsen of Lakeville; seven grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren as well as nieces and a nephew.
