Evelyn Marie Malone, 95, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Koda Living Community.
She was born October 18, 1921 in Hawick, Minnesota the daughter of Hermie and Jennie (Erickson) Pelkey. She grew up in the Glenwood, Minnesota area and at age 12 moved to Owatonna where she graduated from high school in 1939. Evelyn worked at the Owatonna Hospital from 1939 to 1942 and at Owatonna Tool Company from 1942 to 1944. She was united in marriage to Donald Malone on November 7, 1944 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Owatonna. The couple made their home in Owatonna where they raised their family. Following the death of her husband, Evelyn continued living in Owatonna and took a job working as a copy room attendant in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1980 to 1992. At this time she lived at the Emma Norton Residence in St. Paul during the week. Evelyn volunteered with the Blood Mobile for over 40 years and was very politically active. She enjoyed socializing with others, especially over a round of golf or a game at the bowling alley. Assisting others with their needs was important to Evelyn. She drove many people to appointments including her mother, sisters and aunt. Evelyn was devoted to her family and was always there to help them whenever possible. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Patrick) McCarthy and Caliste Coffey; grandchildren, Leah McCarthy and Mark McCarthy and a nephew, Bill (Jeanne) Hankerson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Malone (9/28/1978); parents, Hermie and Jennie; siblings, James Pelkey, Leonie Hankerson and Easter Kvasnicka.
Visitation will be St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Owatonna on Monday, February 13th from 9:30-10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30am Monday, February 13th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Morales officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
Memorials are preferred to the Owatonna Foundation or the Homestead Hospice House.
