Evelyn E. Nornes, 84, of Owatonna, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Owatonna Hospital. She was born July 8, 1924 in Ada, Minnesota the daughter of Chris and Helen (Gunderson) Bjerk. When Evelyn was eight her mother died, leaving Evelyn and her four siblings to be raised by their father. After finishing school, Evelyn worked at various jobs, including as a cashier and telephone operater i Fargo, ND. She married Jack Nornes in Moorhead on August 16, 1952. evelyn and Jack, who was a musician, traveled with dance bands in the midwest, eventually settling in texas for several years. When they returned to Minnesota in 1960, the couple had two children, Cynthia and Timothy. Jack and Evelyn moved to Owatonna where Jack was employed as a salesman at Elde's Auto Parts for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Evelyn was both a homemaker and a waitress/hostess at Jerry's Supper Club, retiring after 10 years with health problems. Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family and the many other relatives who resided in the area. She is survived by her husband, Jack Nornes of Owatonna; daughter, Cynthia Nornes of Bemedji; son, Timothy (and Colleen (Kingrey)) Nornes of Apple Valley; grandson, Daniel Zerott of Minneapolis; sister, Ione Lawrence of Ada and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norman; sisters, Ardis and Eleanor. Visitation will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Reverend Dean Smith officiating.
