Fern Alma Hansen, 93, of Owatonna, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born August 15, 1918 in Osnabrock, North Dakota the daughter of Edward and Helga (Quinell) Stewart. She graduated from Wales High School, North Dakota in 1937. She then attended Valley City Teachers College in Valley City, North Dakota. Fern worked at Deaconess Hospital as a Dieticians Assistant in Grand Forks, ND before going to Seattle, WA. She lived in Seattle during WWII and learned the 'Fitters Trade' while working at Saads Shoe Repair Shop. In 1944, she moved to Owatonna where she worked at Jostens making parts for Norden Bomb Sights and also in the Announcement Department retiring in 1980 after 34 years. She married Martin Hansen on June 15, 1947 in Wales, ND and made their home in Owatonna. Martin died July 16, 1986 after 39 years of marriage. Fern liked to work in the garden, care for her home, enjoyed needlework and having coffee with her friends. She also loved her nieces and nephews very dearly. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. She is survived by her brother, Carl (and Margaret) Stewart of Owatonna; sister-in-law, Priscilla Stewart of Owatonna; ten nieces and nephews, Deborah (and John) Dorle of Woodbury, Craig (and Debbie) Fairbanks of Murrieta, CA, Carter (and Sha) Fairbanks of Bullhead City, AZ, Sharon (and Lyle) Krohnberg of Owatonna, Carl Stewart of Phoenix, AZ, Glen Stewart of Milaca, Larry Stewart of Owatonna, Barb Stewart of Spirit Lake, IA, Carla (and Jack) Johnson of Little Falls, and Ken (and Kari) Stewart of Farmington; many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Martin, sister, Helen Fairbanks, and brothers, Earl Stewart and Louis Stewart. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM . Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Intern Pastor Amanda Schultz officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna.
