Fern Olive Kispert, 88, of Owatonna, died Monday, February 19, 2018 at District One Hospital. She was born March 26, 1929 in Alexandria the daughter of Oscar and Dora (Benson) Solem. Fern graduated from Kensington High School in 1947. She attended the Minnesota School of Business before working for the Insurance Company of North America in Minneapolis and later in Washington D.C. On June 21, 1952, she married Eugene Kispert in Kensington. The couple lived near Washington D.C. prior to moving to Owatonna in 1954. Fern was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and later Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volunteering and staying active with her church. Fern loved her cat, Kitty. She is survived by her husband, Gene Kispert of Owatonna; son, Steve Kispert of Owatonna; daughters, Kathy (and Scott) Marshall of Crosby, Karla (and Dennis) Kispert-Schwab of Owatonna; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters, 3 brothers-in-law and an infant granddaughter. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday from 4pm to 7pm and at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Saturday from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Schlicker officiating. Interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna. Fern had a great love of animals and would prefer memorials be given to the Steele County Humane Society or to the donor's choice.
