Ferris H. Chladek, 95, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Traditions I of Owatonna. He was born February 14, 1920 in Owatonna, Minnesota the son of Fred and Mildred (Porten) Chladek. He attended school in Owatonna, and in 1937 joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. He then did miscellaneous work for area farmers. Ferris served in the United States Army from 1942-1945. He was then united in marriage to Ruth Naylor September 10, 1946. He began working for Steele/Waseca Coop in 1948 later retiring in 1982. He then read meters part time until 1989. Ferris was very active with the Boy Scouts for over thirty years, and earned the Silver Beaver Award from the Game Haven Council, and also attained the level of Vigil within the Order of the Arrow for Boy Scouts of America. He was a volunteer with the Red Cross teaching first aid and CPR classes for over forty years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, VFW, and served on many funerals with the Veterans Honor Guard. In his spare time he enjoyed chain saw sharpening, wood carving and woodwork, square dancing, and camping with his family especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Ruth Chladek of Owatonna, sons Roger (Renae) Chladek of Farmington, Larry (Heidi) Chladek of Owatonna, and David Chladek of Eagan. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren 3 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 3 step great grandchildren, and 1 niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Vernon. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Saturday April 18, 2015 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Loren Olson officiating. Interment will be in the Owatonna Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Owatonna. Memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Program or the Game Haven Council Boy Scouts of America.
