Florence Huber, 90, of Owatonna, died Monday, January 6, 2020 at Timberdale Trace in Owatonna.
She was born January 21, 1929 in Greenway, South Dakota the daughter of Arthur and Sophia (Orth) Jahraus. She grew up on a farm east of Greenway. While working for her oldest sister, Bertha and her husband Christ Bentz, she met Hilbert Huber after a movie in Zeeland, ND. This began the couple's four-year courtship. During this time, she began working at her Uncle Levi's store in Zeeland. The couple was married on September 28, 1947 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zeeland. They lived on a farm near Cresbard, SD, from 1947-1949, where they farmed. They then rented a farm near Ipswich, SD, from 1949-1956. In the fall of 1956, they moved to Mayville, WI, to work factory jobs where Florence worked at Purity Cheese. They built a home in 1960, which was a treat after renting all of their married life. To be closer to family, they moved to Pierre, SD, in 1964, where Florence worked as a waitress at Liberty Café. She later took a clerk position and Penny's and then Sears. In 1969, the family moved to Owatonna for better jobs. While living in Owatonna, she worked at Sears, Jostens and National Computer Systems from which she retired in 1991. Retirement afforded Florence and Hilbert the opportunity to travel the United States which they enjoyed doing for nearly 30 years. They visited 49 states. Their love of country music took them to Nashville and Branson on a number of occasions. They were even able to travel to England, France, Belgium, Wales and Holland to visit their son, Jim, who was in the Air Force. In recent years, they enjoyed wintering in South Texas returning in mid March to make sure they were home to get their garden going.
