Forrest "Bud" L. Martin Jr., 74, of Owatonna, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Owatonna Care Center in Owatonna, Minnesota. He was born July 23, 1939 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of Forrest and Ada (Phillips) Martin Sr. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1958. From an early age, Bud worked in the food industry. In 1960, he began working for HyVee in Ottumwa, Iowa. Bud worked for nine different locations throughout the Midwest. In 1982, he moved to Owatonna where he was manager at HyVee until his retirement in 1989. He married Dorothy Singer of LeMars, Iowa in 1975. She passed away in 2000. Bud was involved in many organizations, where he served as an officer or board member including: Jaycees, Lions, Rotary, Chambers of Commerce, Vocation School, and Cedar Mall. He also served a one year term on the Board of Directors of HyVee. Bud loved to paint and draw. He also enjoyed fishing, softball and "whatever else he decided on". He is survived by his son, Brent Martin of Owatonna; daughter, Sue (and Doug) Ducey of North Liberty, IA; stepson, Douglas Singer of LeMars, IA; six grandsons, Landon, Hunter, and Chase Martin of Owatonna, William Barker of Davenport, IA, Kenneth (and Cassidy) Barker of North Liberty, IA, and Jeremy Ducey of Knoxville, IA; five great grandchildren, Cassidy, Kaitlynne, and Killian Barker, Leah and Olivia Ducey; brother, Phil (and Judy) Martin of Streator, IL; two sisters, Nancy McCauley of Federal Way, WA and Bonita Nystrom of Highlands Ranch, CO; step sister, Cherie Weeks of Pulaski, IA; step brother, Steve (and LeeAnn) Doud of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Dorothy A. Martin of Streator, IL; many loving, caring nieces, nephews, and cousins from coast to coast. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy Martin, and brother, Richard Martin. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Bud''s life will be held at a later date.
