Frank B. Anderson, 92, died peacefully at Clare Bridge Cottage on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Frank is survived by his wife, Arlene of 63years; daughter, Christena "Tena" (and Gene) Hager of Owatonna; son, David (and Carolyn) Anderson of Eagen; grandchildren, Rondol (and Brenda) Hager of Owatonna, Robert (and Dawn) Hager of Owatonna, Daniel (and Bobbie) Hager of Apple Valley; great grandchildren, Jennifer, Cody, Cassie, Jessie Clare Hager; sister, Ethel (and Lavern) Hoff of St. Louis Park; sister-in-law, Phyllis Anderson of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Kenneth Hojberg of New Richland and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, four brothers, and four nieces. Frank was the fourth child born to Karl and Kristine (Nielsen) Anderson on June 16, 1917 in Lille Skaggeshol, Taars Songe Township in Northern Jutland Denmark. He was baptized in Denmark on August 26, 1917. The family moved to America and settled in Ellendale, Minnesota in October 1923. Frank attended grade and high school in Ellendale. He learned English and graduated in 1937. He was confirmed on May 24, 1931 at St. Ansgar Church east of Ellendale. From 1936 to 1943 he worked at his uncle's meat market, Anderson Bros. Meat Market in Ellendale with some time off for a brief time in the service and a trip to California with his brother Einer. He entered into the service in October 1941 and was medically discharged in December 1941. Frank moved to Owatonna in 1943 and for a short time he worked at Marigold Dairies. He then worked for the Owatonna bakery from 1943 to 1948. Frank met his future wife, Arlene Rothi, at the First National Bank in 1946 where she was a teller. They were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna on June 30, 1946. Frank and Arlene purchased a corner grocery store at Oak and Holly in 1948. He was noted for his fresh cut meat, free delivery, and friendly service. They operated the store until 1972. Frank was on the Board of Directors for Associated Grocers in Blooming Prairie, and retired from there in 1973. Upon retiring from the grocery business, he became Fire Chief of Owatonna in October 1972 and retired in June 1987. He was a firefighter since 1938 in Ellendale and Owatonna. His grandson, Bob, followed in his footsteps to become a firefighter. Frank enjoyed bowling, golfing and working on projects around his house and his daughters home. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially Christmas. He enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Frank was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church since 1946, joined the Elks Club in 1955, and was Exalted Ruler in 1964-1965. In 1961, he became a Mason, and was a member of the York Rite, Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and the Owatonna Shrine Club of which he was Secretary/Treasurer for 15 years. He was also Chairman of the Owatonna Shrine Club pancake breakfast for many years and was later joined by his son-in-law, Gene. Frank was very active with the Village of Yesteryear Fire Department Museum. Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday from 3:30pm to 7:00pm with a Masonic Service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue at Trinity Lutheran Church on Wednesday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 1:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Frank may be made to Homestead House or Trinity Lutheran Church Foundation Fund.
